November 22nd—W.E.L.C.A. presents “Thank Offering Sunday”—Thank offerings are offerings given as an expression of thanks.  There are moments in each day when we can and should be thankful to God.  It can be something as significant as a child’s first step, a recovery from illness, or landing a new job.  It can be something as ordinary as seeing your child off to school complete with lunch and home-work, making it home safely after rush hour on the bypass, or listening to bird calls while walking through your back yard.

When any of these significant or ordinary moments happen, we can say thank you to God.  We Lutheran women also have a tradition of combining our prayer of thanks with an offering gift, a thank offering.  That’s why we have (in the past) those cardboard boxes known as Thank offering boxes.  When that moment happens and we are thankful, we place an offering into the box as a further expression of our thanks.

On Sunday, Nov. 15th, special envelopes for your Thank offering will be handed out at both services.  They are to be returned on the following Sunday, Nov. 22nd.  As good stewards of the bounty of blessings received, respond with a thankful heart.

W.E.L.C.A. is an acronym for Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.  For more information, please contact Carlene McBride at 979-823-0435.

NOVEMBER 24TH—twin city mission pies—start signing up this sunday!

Each year Peace families support our community at Thanksgiving by providing homemade pies to the Twin City Mission's annual Thanksgiving dinner at their Community Cafe. The TCM has moved into bigger quarters, and has a much larger café & kitchen facility now. As a result of the economic downturn, their family shelter rooms have been full since they opened the new building this summer. There are currently 7 families with 15 children, and a total of about 100 people staying at The Bridge shelter. In addition to the shelter residents, the staff and anyone from the community is served a free Thanksgiving noon meal. Consequently, we have been asked if we will provide additional pies this year! I know we can do it! We always rise to the occasion!

Please sign up on the board in the narthex starting Nov 8th. The pies need to be either dropped at the TCM (410 S. Randolph, Bryan. 822-1492) by Tuesday Nov 24 at 5:00 pm, or dropped off in PLC's kitchen by 11:30 am on Wed 25 Nov. We need a group of folks ready to collect pies and caravan them to the Mission at 12:15 pm on the 25th.

It is a great service project for kids and families to bake pies and talk about Thanksgiving, then the sight of so many pies in our kitchen all going to help needy folks celebrate the same holiday together is so heartwarming. Please consider giving to others this year, either through this project or one of the many other service opportunities available in the community.

Thanks,

Bari
